For the traveler, the US Virgin Islands offers nearly everything. St. Thomas is a shoppers paradise, duty free shopping abounds and there is even a Hard Rock Cafe for the world traveler who must have glass or t-shirt from every HRC on the planet. The St. Thomas Harbor is almost always filled with cruise ships. The ships park at Charlotte Amalie, the capitol of the US Virgin Islands, and the busiest cruise port in the Caribbean.
St. Croix is the largest of the United States Virgin Islands at 82 square miles. There are two distinct towns to visit - Christiansted and Frederiksted. The architectural quality and historic interest of the one-time Danish West Indies capital has made part of Christiansted a National Historic Site.
St. John, often mistakenly called St. John's Island, is the real gem of the USVI. Three fifths of the 20 square mile St. John is national park and there are around 40 beaches
for sun worshipers to choose from as well as, plenty of trails and ruins for hikers to explore. Senator Barack Obama escaped the campaign trail for a short vacation in the Virgin Islands, but he couldn't escape cable news. Walking on a beach in St. Thomas on Sunday, Mr. Obama was spotted by a family of American tourists, including a 6-year-old girl who asked him to pose for a photo with her. He obliged, and the girl's family promptly sent the photo to Fox News, where it was shown Monday throughout the day.
